Week 12: Final Video & Screenshots

Video

This is my final video I have created, using Sony Vegas Pro 10 as the editor, and Cryengine to create the model-

Screenshots

These are the 3 final screenshots i think display my models best qualities nicely.  They reflect the panning sequence used in my video, two are taken inside the cave presenting the space of my model and the other is internal exploring inside my model reflecting more intensely how it can be inhabited when explored.

Week 11: Title

I have decided to give my model the title 'Revenant'.
Revenant is defined as returning from death or a long absence and is thought of as common folklore.  This to me evokes feelings of darkness + divinity, which reflects from the darkness of the cave contrasting the shining fragmented crystal like forms adding an extra sense of mystery + unworldlyness.  The space acts almost as a torrent of souls, and the glowing balls reflect the dead spirits rising and being drawn towards the light.  The music helps build these supernatural notions through its opera and crescendo.

Week 11: Video Editing

I decided to use Sony Vegas 10 to edit my recordings instead of Windows Movie Maker.  I have worked with this program before, and it gives me more options and effects when editing my scene-

Week 11: Refinement

There were a few things I decided to change after seeing my video put together.  The first was the animation speed of the glowing balls- it seemed too subtle and unnoticeable in my first draft video.  Therefore I increased the speed using my flowgraphs in my model by doubling it.  I also refined some of the camera pans- ad increased either their distance/ time so that the transition between camera tracks appeared a lot smoother and continuous.

Week 11: Draft Video

This is a draft I created putting all the camera tracking scenes together and music added-

Week 10: Chosen Music

I have decided to use a song created vonfrank42 from YouTube called 'Forgotten Challenge Dual Mix' - which is a mixture he created from the forgotten challenge orginal songs from the Kingdom Hearts video game series, composed by Yoko Shimomura.

It is a classical track, contains instruments such as organs, drums, violin, symbols etc. A lot of tension is created and built up through the vocals in the song, which will be played during the climax of my video.  Overall the song helps reinforce the divine unworldly mood I'm going for.

Week 10: Middle & End Sequence

This is the middle and end sequence I have created for my video using Camera Track view and MSI Afterburner.  For the middle sequence, I was basically experimenting with different camera views/ angles that successfully accentuate and show off my models best features and help enhance the ethereal atmosphere-

Week 10: Music

There are a number of songs I have considered incorporating for music. They each set off different moods, once I have recorded all my sequences I will then decide which song suits best.

The soundtracks are gaming inspired, given that the environment is gaming based (interactive + inhabitable)-

Dive Into the Heart - Kingdom Hearts

The Hanging Edge- Final Fantasy XIII
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=skzimlWx5DA

Tension Rising - Kingdom Hearts II

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tRvAu4oWG4k

Always on my Mind - Kingdom Hearts

Forgotten Challenge - Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eMAQdYH0MZY

Road to Zanarkand - Final Fantasy X

Because of copyright laws, if I want to incorporate any of these songs I will have to look for remixes or covers and ask permission to use them/ create them myself.

Week 10: Start Sequence

This is the starting sequence I have created using Camera Tracking and MSI After Burner video editor/ recorder-

Week 10: Track View

I decided with my model, that having a track view would be a more effective way to record my model.  Because the way I intend on exploring particular spaces and parts of my model to help show off its most pleasing aspects, cannot be reached by character tracking.  I also think it will give me a broader range of options when it comes to editing the final video.

Week 9: Refinement

I decided to alter the view distance ratio for all of the glowing balls of light much higher, as i thought it gave a better sense of immersion and a more realistic display of light-

Week 9: Animation

These are some screenshots of the Spawnpoint and Flowgraphs Ive created.  I decided for the spawnpoint to start just inside the entrance of the cave, and the flowgraph shows the subtle animations ive created through the floating balls of light-

Week 8: Write Up

I chose to redefine my Asymmetry model, as that was the model I saw with the most potential to become an inhabitable 3D space.  The major change I made was changing the model from a grounded pyramid form, to a spherical one- and this was because it allowed more freedom and opportunity to interact + explore different views, angles, movements, etc.  After playing around with the model, I decided that it having my model in an enclosed area (cave) because having it in an open spacious area seemed too endless, and focus was given to the expansiveness as opposed to the model itself.  To create a more explorable area, I had to create a directional focus- and the cave gave a path in which to follow.  With a linear track to follow, you can then focus more on your environment- and a dark cave then only gives focus on the light objects inside, which in this case was my model.   To give a sense of build up to the inhabitor and a climax to the video, I decided to leave the complete form at the end of the path and repeat simplified versions and pieces of it through it.  Overall, I decided that a very surreal fantasy landscape would suit my model best and to enhance this notion I decided to create a very light driven animation & focus.  I am considering animating the light forms inside my model, as well as glowing fragments which surround- as this will help create a luminous feel, and will again bring focus to my space being explored and heighten the viewers senses.

Week 8: Potential animation

Considering what I could do for my animation- I've decided that some subtle animation might be nice, maybe on glowing balls surrounding my model.  I will try this next week.

Week 8: Potential Views/ Angles

I've started considering the sort of storyboard I want to extract in my video of the model. Considering start, middle + end I have played with views and angles I want to show during the sequence-

Week 8: Cave Development

Repetition of model with lights added

Lights added through cave to give seeable path + more pieces added with lights

Rocks added to create more realistic cave-like atmosphere

Balls of light added ready to be animated

Week 8: Cave

This is the cave Ive started creating to place my model inside-

Week 8: Ideas

After discussing in class, I came up with some sketches + ideas of ways to refine my model to make it better and more inhabitable-

Research-

We thought of the idea of having my model (one ball) as the main focus, because any more was too busy- this image displays that technique nicely.
Image: Final Fantasy Dirge of Seberus

An idea came up of having the model inside a cave type environment, as that would suit it best- and the darker setting would complement my glowing lights.
Image: Final Fantasy X

This idea of having my model fragmented + scattered around the space also seemed a good way to create new forms + dimensions of my model.
Image: Pokemon Black & White

When thinking about other aspects that help enhance the model + animation, we thought that playing with/ adding multiple sources of light could be quite effective and improve the overall experience given when exploring the space.

Week 7: Lighting

Here are some experiments I did with lighting- and playing around with good views to complement it-

Week 7: Views/ Angles

These are some angles I discovered that I could use to enhance my model-
